1,600 Pieces of Litter Unearthed at Conolley Beach

BEBOT back in action. Our sand-sifting pal was back at it for its second complete beach cleaning of the season at the south shore’s Conolley Beach.

For our last beach cleanup of the season, BEBOT uncovered a staggering 1600+ pieces of litter hidden beneath the sand, our biggest haul of the summer!

With high levels of foot traffic all summer long, this public beach is prone to accumulating beach litter that gets buried out of sight.

Back on August 21, BEBOT finished the first-ever full public beach cleaning by a robot in North America. But it just couldn’t stay away. Our bot returned this week for another round, and it did not come back empty-handed.

Total trash removed on 9/26:

  • 400+ pieces of glass

  • 160+ cigarette butts

  • 1,600 total pieces of trash

The results prove that mechanical beach cleaning significantly improves the ability to remove small litter hidden under the sand, as a volunteer clean up had been completed just prior to the BEBOT cleaning on 9/26.

While wet weather at the last cleaning back in August may have factored in, these stats are a reminder of just how quickly trash can accumulate on Tahoe’s beaches. So, do your part by taking all your trash home with you, and picking up any little bits you find where they shouldn’t be.

Thank you to our partners at Keep Tahoe Blue, City of South Lake Tahoe Government & Beach Retreat & Lodge at Tahoe for breaking new ground in our quest to create a #LitterFreeTahoe. It’s your commitment and action taken each day that keeps our beaches sustainable and our lake clarity crystal clear for future generations to enjoy.

A special thank you to Arctic Electricians for keeping our BEBOT fleet powered all summer long!

Together we #KeepTahoeBlue.
