Celebrating a Summer of Cleaner Shores in Tahoe

Published by: ECO-CLEAN Solutions | September 28th, 2024

We tackled our busiest month yet in September, with multiple full-scale beach cleanups around the Tahoe Basin! We dug deep, removing thousands of litter pieces from beneath the sand and completing our final rounds for the season.

But the excitement doesn’t end there—we have some incredible events lined up for October! Dive in to explore our latest achievements, final cleanup tallies, and what’s next on the horizon!

September Cleanups & Litter Trends

We deployed our BEBOT fleet across North Shore beaches, including Kings Beach, Lake Forest, Moon Dune Beach, Tahoe Vista, and Franciscan Resort. Combined with human-powered efforts, BEBOT collects 10 times more litter, targeting hidden items like cigarette butts, bottle caps, and small plastics destined to become microplastics.

A special thanks to our partners at the North Tahoe Community Alliance and the TOT-TBID Dollars at Work program for supporting our North Shore expansion!

On the South Shore, we wrapped up end-of-season cleanups at Zephyr Cove, Meeks Bay, and Tahoe Beach Club, revisiting these sites to track litter accumulation and demonstrate the impact of regular maintenance. Stay tuned for a final report with litter tallies, as research students at the Desert Research Institute catalog our findings to help support impactful policy changes that can provide more litter-prevention resources throughout Tahoe.
